Lake Wendouree Foreshore (The Steve Moneghetti Track)

The major aim of the Lake Wendouree Lighting Project is to provide lighting around the Steve Moneghetti Track to provide a safe environment for pedestrians, joggers and the general public, particularly after hours during winter months. Lighting is proposed to be energy efficient, compliant with Australian Standards, have minimal light spillage beyond the track and can be easily programmed to control hours of operation (eg shut off at 8.30pm).

The Lake Wendouree Lighting Project has broad public benefit and will specifically:

  • Create a safe environment for night time use of the Steve Moneghetti Track
  • Help to activate the Lake and provide increased opportunities for use of the lake foreshore by the community during winter months and for special events, night markets etc.
  • Contribute to improving the overall health and well-being of the Ballarat community by encouraging fitness and recreational activities.

Project FinancialsTop of document.

Total cost for supply and installation varies depending on the style and distance of lights apart (25-30 meters) but varies between $1.25 - $1.75 million.

Annual operating costs are estimated to be $10,000 per annum.

The project proposes to seek funding through community fundraising and sponsorship. Subject to support through the Lake Master Planning process it will also seek financial support from Local and State Government.
