The major aim of the Lake Wendouree Lighting Project is to provide lighting around the Steve Moneghetti Track to provide a safe environment for pedestrians, joggers and the general public, particularly after hours during winter months. Lighting is proposed to be energy efficient, compliant with Australian Standards, have minimal light spillage beyond the track and can be easily programmed to control hours of operation (eg shut off at 8.30pm).
Total cost for supply and installation varies depending on the style and distance of lights apart (25-30 meters) but varies between $1.25 - $1.75 million.
Annual operating costs are estimated to be $10,000 per annum.
The project proposes to seek funding through community fundraising and sponsorship. Subject to support through the Lake Master Planning process it will also seek financial support from Local and State Government.
