The Community Lake Hub aims to provide boatshed to function as home base for a range of community paddling clubs and other recreation based groups not currently provided for at Lake Wendouree.

The facility is intended to be a regional centre to support and promote active recreation including community paddling sports, walking, jogging and running, cycling, tai chi, lion dancing and fitness.

The architectural concepts provide for consolidated facilities that include: a deck with boat mooring and direct access to the water, paddle racks with storage, meeting rooms, change rooms and toilets, a kitchen with bar and a multi-purpose room that can seat up to 200 guests.

The benefits of the Community Hub include:

  • Provision of a home for a range of paddling clubs with direct use and dependencies on Lake Wendouree.
  • Improved access to the water for events, training and for storage of boats.
  • Provision of a hub to support current and future Active Recreation pursuits in the Lake Precinct.
  • Improving community capacity building and health and well-being outcomes through increasing active recreation participation and opportunities in the Ballarat region.

The estimated cost of construction is approx. $2million. Detailed costs for construction and maintenance are yet to be determined, depending on final size and building design.

Local community funding; Local Municipal funding; State Government funding will be actively sought.
