Integrated Transport Planning

Ballarat needs an integrated and sustainable transport system which effectively manages increased travel demand by our growing population. Adopting this approach is fundamentally about giving the community a range of convenient transport options regarding how they move, considering their personal and business needs and circumstances.

Today, Tomorrow, Together: The Ballarat Strategy adopted the strategic policy direction and guiding principles of transport in Ballarat (refer p155). It identified the need to bring together the range of existing transport policies and strategies adopted for Ballarat and make sense of them as part of an integrated transport picture.

Transport Action Plans are now under development to guide transport related decision-making for:

  • Cycling
  • Walking
  • Public Transport
  • Road

Ballarat Council recognises the important role cycling plays in creating a more sustainable and healthy community, and is actively promoting Ballarat as a cycling city.

The Ballarat Cycling Action Plan 2017-2025 was adopted by council in March 2017. Requested by stakeholders, the plan identifies projects and priorities for improving cycling conditions.

The Technical Report was developed in conjunction with the Ballarat Cycle Action Plan and aims to establish a cohesive network of cycling routes between destinations, targeted at novice or everyday riders.
