Ballarat Commuter & Touring Map

The City of Ballarat in conjunction with the Ballarat Bicycle Users Group, VicRoads, Travel Smart and the Ballarat Bush Walking Club have collaborated to produce the Ballarat Commuter & Touring Map (see links below) that outlines on and off road cycling routes in Ballarat, public transport links to routes, six touring routes around the Ballarat municipality, as well as other useful information.

For more detailed downloads of the map visit the Ballarat Bicycle Users Group (BalBUG) website.

With 55 percent of all car trips less than five kilometres, there’s room to increase the number of people choosing sustainable travel options such as walking, cycling and public transport. By providing better access, encouraging changes in travel behaviour and improving end-of-trip facilities for people, we can support the growth of sustainable travel.

TravelSmart Map

This TravelSmart Map was developed by the Department of Transport and Melway with Ballarat City Council to provide sustainable transport information on a pocket-sized complete street map with standard Melway references. BICYCLE PATHS

Council is responsible for maintaining approximately 50km of off-road bicycle paths, as well as the many kilometres of on-road bicycle lanes. Council completes a regular annual maintenance regime to keep the cycle network in an acceptable condition.

The City of Ballarat has a strong relationship with BalBUG, and with their help, identifies issues and missing links with the existing network in an effort to provide an enjoyable and safe ride for all bicycle path users.

A section of Councils cycle path budget is dedicated to upgrading the Skipton-Ballarat Rail Trail. With the cooperation from local Councils in the area of the rail trail, it is expected that the rail trail will be of exceptional standard for cycling in the future.
