Ballarat has a rich history of cycling, from the annual Christmas morning road races of the late 1800s, still held to this day, to the now home each January for national and international competitors in the Australian Cycling Road National Championships.
The Ballarat Cycling Action Plan was adopted in March 2017. The action plan outlines key actions to encourage more people to take up riding as a sustainable transport option. Central to the plan was identifying a series of safe, continuous routes that formed the basis of the Ballarat Bicycle Network.
Bicycles are vehicles, and under the law bike riders have the same rights and responsibilities as car drivers. Always keep safe on your bicycle, obey the road laws and be alert to the traffic around you. VicRoads - Bike Rider Safety is a great information resource.
