Federation University Cycling Australia Road National Championships


Ballarat will ring in the New Year with the 2018 FedUni Road National Championships which will feature an invigorating line up of new categories, community events, activities and participation opportunities for all cyclists and cycling fans.

The nation’s best cyclists will take to the streets of Ballarat and Buninyong between Wednesday 3 - Sunday 7 January.

The following road closures will occur during the 2018 FedUni Cycling Australia Road National Championships between January 2-7 to ensure the safety of riders and spectators:

Wednesday 3 January Criterium - Ballarat CBD

  • Implementation of traffic management and parking restrictions will start on Dawson Street North and South from 5am Wednesday 3 Janaury
  • Sturt Street, from Grenville to Raglan Streets, in both directions will close from 7.30am
  • Doveton Street/Midland Highway will close to traffic from 10.30am
  • Doveton StreetMidland Highway will re-open by 11.30pm and all others by midnight.

Thursday 4 - Friday 5 January - Buninyong-Mount Mercer Road

  • Warrenheip Street will be closed to all traffic from Herriott to Somerville Street; with no roadside parking from 4.30am to 7.30pm on Thursday 4 January and 7am to 6.30pm on Friday 5 January
  • The streets immediately surrounding Royal Park, Buninyong will be closed to all traffic from 4.30am to 7.30pm Thursday 4 January and 7am to 6.30pm Friday 5 January
  • Buninyong – Mt Mercer Road from Webbs Hill Road to Dereel – Mt Mercer Road will be closed to traffic from 9am to 5.30pm Thursday 4 January and 9am to 4.30pm Friday 5 January
  • Dereel – Mt Mercer Road from Buninyong – Mt Mercer Road to Gumley Road will be closed to traffic from 9am to 4.30 Friday 5 January

Friday 5 January - Cardigan Village

  • Implementation of the traffic management and parking restriction will start from 6am to 6pm on Madden Road between Haddon - Windermere Road and Windermere Way
  • All other road closure will be in place from 8am to 4pm
  • Roads affected include: Smarts Hill Road, Les Draffins Road, Bo Peep Road, Cuthbert Road, Diamond Drive and Haddon – Windermere Road

Saturday 6 - Sunday 7 January - Buninyong and surrounding areas

  • On both Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 January, implementation of road closures will start from 5am on Saturday and 6.30am on Sunday. Following the race there will be a staggered re-opening from 7pm to 9pm Saturday and 7pm to 8pm Sunday
  • Roads affected include: Geelong Road/Warrenheip St, Midland Highway/Learmonth Street, Mount Buninyong Road, Yendon No. One Road, Yankee Flat Road, Gear Avenue, Fisken Road, East Terrace, Residence Drive and University Drive.
