Australia Day


Thursday 26 January, 5 to 9pm

Celebrate Australia Day in Ballarat at Lake Wendouree with FREE live entertainment followed by the 3BA Skyworks Spectacular.

Pack a picnic, chairs and rugs and join the fun at Windmill Drive, next to the Adventure Playground at Lake Wendouree.

Hosted by the City of Ballarat, the event is alcohol free.

Free entertainment kicks off from 5pm and features: 


5 to 5.30pm             Dora the Explorer Stage Show (Dora’s Dance Party)

Embark on a dance filled adventure with the much loved Latina explorer.  Based on the hugely popular Nick Jr. television series Dora the Explorer.  Opportunity to come and meet Dora and her friends between  6.50 and 7.10pm.


5.30 to 6pm              Matty Chaps Band

A finalist on the hit TV show ‘The Voice’ the band will pay tribute to some of Australia’s most iconic artists including John Farnham, Hunters & Collectors, Cold Chisel & Missy Higgins in true Australia Day style.


6 to 6.30pm              Dora the Explorer Stage Show.

Opportunity to come and meet Dora and her friends between 7.40 and 8.00pm.


6.30 to 7.15pm         The Beatlez Tribute Show

The Beatlez will take you on a fantastic Magical Mystery Tour spanning the entire Beatles career.  With detailed costumes and replica instruments it is a fitting tribute to the iconic Fab Four.


7.15 to 7.30pm         Mayor’s Welcome – Cr Samantha McIntosh


7.30 to 8.15pm         Matty Chaps Band


8:15 to 9pm              The Beatlez Tribute Show


9pm                            3BA Skyworks Spectacular

Alcohol Free Zone 

The Ballarat Botanical Gardens and the Lake Wendouree foreshore will be an alcohol free zone from 3pm.


The City of Ballarat advises that no parking restrictions apply around the Lake precinct, but recommends that care be taken when leaving this area due to the increased amount of traffic expected.

Lake Wendouree closure 

Lake Wendouree is closed for all waterway activities due to the Australia Day fireworks display from 6pm to 11.30pm on Australia Day.

Take care of your pets 

Residents are encouraged to take care of their pets during the fireworks display. Please ensure your pets are kept secure and indoors if needed.

There's an additional CitySafe Taxi Rank service in the Ballarat CBD for the early hours of Australia Day:

1 to 6am, Thursday 26 January, 2017 at the Camp Street Rank, Alfred Deakin Place; and Lydiard Street Rank, corner of Lydiard and Sturt Streets.


The CitySafe Taxi Ranks are a community safety initiative of the City of Ballarat and key partners, supporting positive behaviour and enjoyment of Ballarat’s late night entertainment precinct. Two security guards staff each rank, from 1am to 6am, following Friday and Saturday nights. More than 80,000 patrons use the CitySafe Taxi Ranks each year.


The CitySafe Taxi Rank Program is supported by the Ballarat Taxi Co-operative, Victoria Police, Ballarat Liquor Accord and the City of Ballarat Community Safety Advisory Committee.
