Arch of Victory and Avenue of Honour Committee Conservation of The Ballarat Avenue of Honour
The Arch of Victory /Avenue of Honour Committee has been an active committee since the 1930’s, dedicated to the development and protection of the Ballarat Avenue of Honour and Arch of Victory. The Avenue is recognised as of local and state significance and considered by many to be of national significance. The Committee is an innovative group of community volunteers and their success has been built on forging partnerships with government, politicians, the community and business. Constant, constructive behind-the-scenes work has been instrumental in achieving a much higher standard of maintenance for the Avenue’s surrounds and the excellent outcome for the Avenue as part of the State Government’s duplication of the Western Highway. Over the last two decades, conservation works have addressed past neglect and ensured the long-term existence of the Avenue. Because of the efforts of the Committee, all the trees will be back in place, the Avenue realigned and reopened, and all plaques in place in time for the Century Celebrations.
