COMMUNITY SAFETY MONTH - OCTOBER
Community Safety Month - October
Community Safety Month was initiated in 1996 by the Victorian Safe Communities Network, which coordinates the project with support from Victoria Police. The month provides an opportunity for a wide range of local community groups, Victoria Police, schools, businesses, state and local government departments and agencies to build community safety partnerships by organising safety activities with other groups.
Community Safety Month allows the community to participate, learn from and engage with others who are committed to improving individual and community safety. Being able to live without fear or risk of harm is an essential element for emotional and physical well being. Everyone has the right to feel safe and secure in their own home and community.
The month includes activities that encouraging community learning, strengthening and participation. Events supported by the City of Ballarat this year include The Ballarat ‘a safe city’ Community Safety Awards, “Meet the Neighbourhood” events supporting safe, child friendly neighbourhood activity, Wiser Driver course and responsible pet ownership information.
