MASTER PLAN

The Ballarat Aerodrome Master Plan 2004-2014 was published in early 2005 (click here to view).  The Master Plan has helped guide the development of the airport over the last 5 years.

It is common practice to review airport Master Plans every 5 years.  As a result, the City of Ballarat has recently commenced work on a review of the current Master Plan which will lead to the preparation of a new Master Plan for the airport.  The new Master Plan will have a 20 year horizon ad will be known as the Ballarat Airport Master Plan 2010-2030.

The Ballarat Airport Master Plan 2010-2030 will provide Council with a long term planning framework for the safe, secure, efficient and sustainable use and development of the airport site.

The key objectives of the Ballarat Airport Master Plan 2010-2030 are to:

• Review and update the Ballarat Aerodrome Master Plan 2004-2014;
• Consider the future requirements of Ballarat Airport in regards to aviation and other development;
• Ensure that development in and around the airport precinct is appropriate and compatible with the primary purpose of the airport;
• Understand and document the constraints and opportunities at the airport;
• Review the existing status of the airport in regards to aviation use, community requirements; and
• Explore commercial and other opportunities for the airport.

Ballarat Airport sits within the future Ballarat West Employment Zone.  With increasing focus on the development of the Employment Zone including the proposed Ballarat Western Link Road, it's important to ensure that all Ballarat West Growth area precincts including the Airport are sufficiently protected from the encroachment of inappropriate development and that adequate land is set aside for future growth.  Master Plans assist in this process.

The aim is to complete the draft Ballarat Airport master Plan 2010-2030 by the end of April 2011 and to finalise the document by July 2011.
