The Ballarat Entrances Strategy was adopted by Council in August 2006.

Council have approved a four year capital works program for implementing the Strategy commencing in 2006/2007. The scope and priorities of works are being overseen by a Steering Committee consisting of officers from Council, VicRoads and a representative from the Committee for Ballarat.

Background

The Ballarat Entrances Strategy was developed by THA Landscape Architects for the City of Ballarat.

The Strategy identifies the significance of the major entrances to Ballarat and provides recommendations for the eight major vehicle entrances into the urban areas of Ballarat.

Generic recommendations are provided for urban design, road management and safety, and community partnerships.
Detailed plans are provided for each of the major entrances including recommendations for:

  • Iconic gateway feature
  • Concepts for gateway signage
  • Landscaping and planting themes
  • General visual and aesthetic improvements to the road reserve and adjoining land.

Costings are also provided for implementation of the Strategy and priorities are proposed given that the Strategy will need to be implemented in stages.
