Change to Council’s Building Services

On 1 October 2011 Council transitioned its building services to a statutory-only model.  This change has been introduced to ensure it can function at best practice in relation to the statutory services it provides the local community. 

Council continues to provide a free advisory service to the industry and the community in respect to all building control matters. Council will continue to undertake all other duties in respect to administering and enforcing theBuilding Act 1993and all relevant building regulations. 

All building permit applications should be made to a registered building practitioner after 1 October 2011. For a list of registered building practitioners visit www.buildingcommission.com.au

Disputes involving dividing fences are the most common disputes dealt with at the Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria. The rights and responsibilities of the parties are contained in the Fences Act. This Act is not administered by Council however you can receive advice from Fencing Quickguide Website, or by phoning 1800 658 528.
