PERMANENT COLLECTION

The Art Gallery of Ballarat is an exciting regional gallery with a busy event and exhibition program and an excellent permanent collection. It is the oldest and largest gallery in regional Australia, established in 1884, and houses one of the country's most significant and inspiring collections of Australian art.

Explore the rich history of Australia through the history of Australian art, from early colonial work reflecting life during the settlement years, to contemporary art exploring modern culture and ideas. See the original Flag of the Southern Cross that flew over the stockade during the 1854 Eureka uprising.

View the Gallery's website for more information about changing exhibitions and images of works in the permanent collection.

There is also a fabulous gift shop where you can buy works of local artists and craftspeople as well as souvenirs, toys and art books.

AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES

The After School and Holiday programs at the Art Gallery of Ballarat are not just educational and creative – they’re a lot of fun.

The Gallery offers a range of classes through the year which cater to a range of age and interests. Cost of classes is discounted for Members – another great reason to become a member of the Gallery Association!

Upcoming After School Clases

"Fantabulous Creations of Flight" Sculpture Workshop

Kids – get ready for take-off with this eight-week program.

Young artists will be encouraged to utilise their creativity and modelling skills to design and construct a fantastic model of flight. They may use a combination of wood, canvas, string, wire, wheels and propellers.

Exploring the ageless fascination with flight, students will discover some preparatory images of very inventive creations to stimulate ideas. Emphasis will be on originality of ideas and a strong hands-on approach.

Working with local artist Cameron Ross, children will also learn safe ways of using tools and construction techniques.
