Councillor Samantha McIntosh has been Mayor of Ballarat since November 2016; delivering a strategic vision for the city which facilitates job creation, attracts investment and delivers essential services and infrastructure.
Mayor McIntosh takes a strategic approach to the Mayoral role; lobbying governments, forging partnerships and advocating strongly on behalf of Ballarat and its residents.
Cr McIntosh was first elected to Ballarat City Council in December 2008 to represent the municipality’s North Ward. Re-elected in the Central Ward in 2012 and 2016; Cr McIntosh served as Deputy Mayor in 2012.
Mayor McIntosh is a confident and visionary leader, working to build Ballarat’s reputation as a progressive and forward-looking city; the regional capital of Western Victoria.
Cr McIntosh has a particular interest in promoting and protecting Ballarat’s outstanding built and social heritage; she has been at the forefront of Council’s world-leading involvement in UNESCO’s Historic Urban landscape approach to heritage management.
Ballarat’s buoyant tourism, arts and events sectors are another area of special interest for Mayor McIntosh; the city has hosted a number of marquee events during her Mayoral term, each drawing thousands of visitors and generating millions of dollars in economic impact.
Under her leadership the City of Ballarat continues to partner with governments and the private sector to deliver priority projects for the city. Redevelopment of Mars Stadium is complete; works continue to upgrade the Civic Hall and develop GovHub on site; design work is underway for the Ballarat Station Precinct and the Ballarat Sports and Events Centre, and discussions continue about the development of an Emergency Services hub in the Ballarat Airport Precinct.
Ballarat is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the state; Mayor McIntosh works with her Councillor colleagues and executive management team on a number of future proofing initiatives related to digital transformation, increasing sustainability, uptake of smart technology, industry transition, job creation and service and infrastructure delivery.
Mayor McIntosh plays an active role in the Prosperity portfolio of Council.
Cr McIntosh has trained as a registered nurse, has owned and managed tourism hospitality and health support venues, and worked as a Ballarat real estate agent.
Cr McIntosh is married and has four adult children.
