Councillor Mark Harris

 

Councillor Mark Harris was returned to represent the Central Ward in October 2016, having previously served Ballarat City Council as a Councillor from 2008 to 2012. Cr Harris was Mayor of the City of Ballarat in 2012.
 

Cr Harris works in Accident and Emergency and retrieval medicine, and has previously worked with the Royal Flying Doctor Service based in Kalgoorlie and at the Trauma Centre at the Alfred Hospital.


In this Council term, Cr Harris will pursue a fairer deal for already burdened ratepayers by reducing debt and advocating for fair support from State Government for rural and regional Councils


Cr Harris believes Council needs smarter, leaner and more-people focused management in the next four years, to make Ballarat a proud city again.


Cr Harris is the Chair of the Board of the Art Gallery of Ballarat, and is on the Finance Sub Committee.


Cr Harris has been deployed twice to Bougainville with the Army as a Major in the Medical Corps and with the United Nations to Timor for emergency evacuation. In recognition of his service in the Australian Defence Forces, Cr Harris is a recipient of an Australian Service Medal (with Bougainville clasp), a Long Service Medal and an Australian Defence Medal.


Cr Harris has an MB.BS (Melbourne); and a Dip RACOG.


Cr Harris is married with three adult children.

Cr Harris is a Sustainability Portfolio Councillor.
