Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships – Traffic Alterations

This national event will be staged in Ballarat (CBD), Buninyong and Learmonth from Thursday 5 – Tuesday 10 January 2012. To ensure the safety of spectators and competitors and deliver the infrastructure requirements for the staging of this event, the following traffic alterations and parking restrictions will be implemented. Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 January - Buninyong

  • The National Open Road Race is contested in an anti-clockwise direction over a 10.2km circuit encompassing Warrenheip St, Midland Hwy, Mt Buninyong Rd, Yankee Flat Rd, Gear Ave, Fisken Rd and Geelong Rd.
  • Residents must exit and return to their property when safe to do so in the same direction as cyclists and seek advice from police and marshals before driving on the circuit.
  • Pedestrian access to businesses in this precinct will not be affected.
  • Temporary V/Line and suburban bus stops will be implemented during this period - details will be displayed at bus stops and on buses.

Geelong Rd and Warrenheip St will be closed to through traffic from Learmonth St (Midland Hwy) to Fisken Rd.

Detours along Moss Ave will be in place to accommodate traffic between Mt Helen and Buninyong.

Laneway closure - open for comment

Submissions are invited on a proposal to discontinue the following pedestrian laneway:

Leawarra Crescent/ Mawarra Drive Pedestrian Laneway - Delacombe

Submissions must initially be in writing and reach the Place Names Officer no later than 5pm on Monday 13 February 2012.

Works Advice

Council is about to commence the following works:

Location: Walker St Sebastopol - Tait Street to Kossuth Street

Works:Road Reconstruction and Ancillary Works

Duration:Monday 9 January, 2012 to Friday 18 February, 2012

To minimise traffic disruption, traffic is encouraged to use alternative routes where possible, as full and partial road closures will be necessary during some phases of the works.  Motorists are requested to approach the area with caution and to observe all warning and directional signage.  Inconvenience will be kept to a minimum and your co-operation during this period would be appreciated.
