Register now to discuss key community safety issues

Registrations are now open for the inaugural Rural and Regional Safety Conference 2011.

The free conference, to be hosted by the City of Ballarat, will be held on Wednesday 19 October at the Art Gallery of Ballarat.

City of Ballarat People and Communities Portfolio Councillor and Chair of the Community Safety Advisory Committee Des Hudson said the conference will showcase current evidence and practice of key community safety issues.

“It is widely recognised that rural and regional workers are often impacted by issues of isolation and resourcing throughout Victoria.

“In response to this the conference will provide participants with opportunities for networking, capacity building and to informally share their experiences with other.”

Guest speakers will discuss alcohol related harm, driver-cyclist interaction, women’s violence prevention and urban design, they include:

  • Geoff Munro, Policy Director, Australian Drug Foundation
  • Dr Cameron Munro, Sinclair Knight Merz
  • Janelle Cribb, Project Manager, Sports and Gender Equity, VicHealth
  • Stephanie Knox, Planning Institute of Australia
  • Katrina Leason, Manager, Fair Game Respect Matters, AFL Victoria

 The conference is free of charge and will be held from 9.30am and 3pm.

The 2011 Community Safety Awards will be announced following the conference at 3.30pm.
