Council receives further briefing on 300 Mair Street project risk assessment

At its ordinary meeting last night (14/9), Ballarat City Council received a report that consolidated all of the risk analysis undertaken throughout the 300 Mair Street project.

The report said in preparing the Civic Hall Risk Management Matrix, Council officers have engaged in detailed risk management activities to reduce risk factors related to the project since the project’s inception.

The matrix outlines key risks to the project, the likelihood of the risks and strategies being used to mitigate potential risks.

The report confirmed that risks were being reviewed on an ongoing basis by the Project Control Group and that all measures would be taken to best manage risk to the project.

Due to a small number of contractual matters that require commercial negotiation, the report was considered by Council in-camera, however, the document detailing both risks and mitigation strategies, the Civic Hall Risk Management Matrix, has been published on the City of Ballarat website today.

The report said that in November 2010, Council authorised officers to begin a commercial development process to select a principal design consultant for the design of municipal offices on the former Civic Hall site, and to oversee the delivery of the first stage of the approved masterplan for the site.

The report said Council’s approach to facilitating redevelopment of the 300 Mair Street site is based on removing or minimising the risks associated with the project.
