Arch footpath gets an upgrade

Improvements will be made to the footpath on the north side of the Sturt and Learmonth Street intersection following the completion of the Arch of Victory roundabout.

City of Ballarat Councillor Noel Perry said the works on the Arch had prompted Council staff to consider improvements to the footpath.

“The current footpath is quite narrow and made of rough gravel. There is minimal clearance for pedestrians from the through traffic and no linkage to the west”.

“We’ve been in talks with the Ballarat High School and Integra, the owners of the land to the west, and have come to a good arrangement which we’re confident will see the footpath become much more user friendly”.

Ballarat High School will provide a portion of school land to allow for a higher standard footpath to be constructed, providing increased clearance from the footpath.

An agreement has been reached with Integra to allow the path to continue to the west past the former Ballarat Golf Club, providing a valuable east-west link beyond the roundabout.

Council will replant trees in the area to form a green backdrop to the arch roundabout from the Learmonth St approach.
