Work has begun to replace a crossing at Slattery Creek on the Addington-Creswick Road, which was washed out by floods in February this year.
Excavation and removal of the old culvert is complete and preparation works for the new culvert base will begin next week.
The Addington-Creswick Road has been closed at Slattery Creek since the floods, and will reopen when the new structure is completed late in October.
The tender for the $413,000 ‘design and construct’ project was won by Hazell Bros. It has been funded through the Natural Disaster Assistance Program via the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance.
City of Ballarat Growth and Development Portfolio Councillor, Ben Taylor said the new crossing would be welcomed by people in the area.
“The new crossing over Slattery Creek will be a two lane reinforced concrete structure. The previous crossing, a 1970 corrugated steel structure, was significantly damaged by the February floods and was beyond repair”, Cr Taylor said.
“Motorists have had to detour using Millers Road to the south or Tourello-Creswick Rd to the north while the Addington-Creswick Road has been closed, and we thank them for their patience during this time”.
Motorists are asked to continue to follow detour signs throughout the construction period.
