Ballarat’s Rotary Clubs will come together to present a new swap meet event for Ballarat in 2012.

Over the past two months, the City of Ballarat has conducted an Expression of Interest process to establish a new swap meet style event for Ballarat.

The Rotary Clubs of Ballarat have been announced as the successful applicant and will coordinate the event.

Rotary Club of Wendouree Breakfast President Elect Andrew Rowan said the new event will be known the Ballarat Swap Meet and will run across the weekend of the 25th and 26th February 2012 at the Ballarat Airport.

“Ballarat has previously enjoyed the economic and social benefits of a swap meet and accommodation providers and business expressed a desire to ensure an event like this continued,” Mr Rowan said.

“The combined Rotary Clubs of Ballarat are thrilled to have the opportunity to deliver an event that will have important economic and community benefits for Ballarat.”

Mayor Ballarat Councillor Craig Fletcher said it was tremendous that a community organisation with experience running similar projects will take on the event.

“It is great to see such a strong community organisation with a record of running quality events is prepared to deliver this great event.”

“Council has been working on appropriate solutions and that is why we facilitated an Expression of Interest process,” Cr Fletcher said.

Cr Fletcher said the City had received a number of high-quality Expressions of Interest in the establishment of a new event.

“Council is committed to working with local organisations, as evidenced by our Ballarat Industry Participation Program (BIPP).

“The BIPP aims to keep investment in the local economy. In the same way, we’re pleased that Rotary’s involvement will also keep more of the event’s economic benefit here in Ballarat.”
