With everything from planes, trains and automobiles there will be something for those of all ages at Council’s Ballarat Airport Open Day this Sunday (03/04) from 10am to 4pm.
The City of Ballarat is giving the local community the opportunity to have a look around Ballarat’s very own historic airport precinct. Entry is free.
City of Ballarat Portfolio Councillor for Destination and Connections Samantha McIntosh said the Open Day offered a unique opportunity for the community to learn more about the Ballarat Airport.
“Many people may be surprised to learn that the Ballarat Airport isn’t only home to aeroplanes. In fact it is home to more than 35 organisations, both aviation and non-aviation. You can learn to ride a motorbike, play snooker or learn about Ballarat’s aviation history all on-site.
“I encourage the community to bring the family and enjoy the many activities and prizes on offer.”
The day will feature aircraft, cars and model trains on display as well as great food and live music for the adults to enjoy.
A range of children’s activities will be on offer, including plaster model painting with the Plaster Fun House, a jumping castle, paper plane competitions and face painting. There will also be a colouring competition with lots of great prizes to be won including a free joy flight around Ballarat.
If you are interested in finding a new hobby, there are over 15 community clubs located at the airport with activities ranging from darts and snooker, to drag racing, slot cars, Morris Minors and bicycles and much more. Many will be on display and available for further information on the day.
There will be three great competitions happening on the day:
- Lucky door prize - Ballarat Aero Club are giving away a trial instruction flight valued at $99
- Colouring competition - Aquila Helicopters are giving away a joy flight for three people
- Passport competition – AeroVision are giving away a ½ hour joy flight for three people
