Ballarat’s youngest shoppers will have a brand new area to discover in the Bridge Mall, when a new play space is created as part of Council’s CBD Strategy.
The new play space will be designed in consultation with the Bridge Mall Traders Association. It is envisioned that the new play space will feature a shade sail and a new soft fall surface.
The project will be made possible with a contribution of $90,000 from Council and $20,000 from the Bridge Mall Traders Association.
City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Craig Fletcher said the new play space was another great outcome for Council’s CBD Strategy.
“This will be a great improvement to the Bridge Mall. Council is working closely with the Bridge Mall Traders to continually improve the amenity of the Mall.”
“The role of the Mall was a key focus of the CBD strategy. We need to continually make city spaces more attractive, and this project will help do so.”
“Following review and consultation with the Bridge Mall Traders Association, we identified an opportunity to develop a new space that provides a first class facility for the city.
“The new facility will ensure the area is safe and has adequate shade for children visiting the Bridge Mall in the future.”
The new play space is expected to be complete by the end of June 2011. The existing playground will be relocated.
Council’s CBD Strategy was adopted in 2010.
