Thursday, March 31, 2011, 10:49 AM

Zumba, street soccer, martial art, live bands and street art are just some of the features of the National Youth Week program to be held locally.

National Youth Week (NYW) will be held from 1 – 10 April, 2011. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Own It!.

NYW is an opportunity for communities to celebrate and recognise the value of all young Australians. It provides an opportunity for young people to express their ideas and opinions, creativity and the important place they hold in our community.

City of Ballarat Portfolio Councillor for People and Communities John Philips said National Youth Week was a wonderful initiative.

“The event is the largest celebration of young people in Australia and will see thousands of people aged 12 – 25 years all across Australia sharing ideas, attending live events and showcasing their talents.

“Council is committed to providing the youth of Ballarat with fun, free events that everyone can enjoy. Congratulations to all those involved in pulling together a fantastic week of activities that will bring together young people from across Ballarat to enjoy a range of different events and activities.”

Council acknowledges the support of Freeza, YMCA, Street Soccer, Mayte Theatre and Victoria Police in putting this year’s program together.
