Helter 'skelter' for play space upgrade

Thursday, June 09, 2011, 4:56 PM

In a first for Ballarat, a new “skelter net” will be added to the new play space at the Marty Busch Recreation Reserve in Sebastopol.

The skelter net is easy to use, safe to climb and fun for kids of all ages and will compliment the range of new play equipment being installed as part of the update, catering for children aged 2-12 years.

City of Ballarat Portfolio Councillor for People and Communities Des Hudson said the existing play equipment had reached the end of its lifespan.

“Updating the play space provides Council with an opportunity to provide a new exciting space for our young people.”

“Council has also acted to move the play space into a more open area, making access easier for residents”.

“The old playground will be removed and the site will be reinstated as park land”.

The Sebastopol Lions Club will assist with the project, spreading soft fall in the playground area on Saturday 11 June.

The play space upgrade is part of a series of upgrade works being undertaken at the reserve including an upgrade of the BMX track, relocation of existing cricket nets and planning for the future of the reserve.

Works will be completed next week and form part of Stage One of Council’s Play Space Planning Framework.
