From Saturday 2 July, the Town Hall Fresh Produce Market will be located at the Bridge Mall and become known as the Ballarat Fresh Produce Market.
City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Craig Fletcher said the Market would be relocated to trial the suitability of potential activity locations in the CBD.
“The Fresh Produce Market has developed a strong following since its introduction in November last year. With winter upon us it is an opportune time for us to trial other potential CBD locations.
“The Bridge Mall provides an obvious choice, with existing Saturday morning foot traffic and the support of the Bridge Mall Traders Association.
“The Market was introduced as an outcome of the CBD Strategy, primarily to activate Ballarat’s CBD. We are confident the Market will continue to achieve this in its new location in the Bridge Mall.”
Bridge Mall Centre Manager John Marios said the Bridge Mall traders welcomed the trial period of the Fresh Produce Market in the Bridge Mall.
“The Bridge Mall offers easy accessibility with the nearby bus stops and car parks as well as offering a village atmosphere and a unique shopping experience that will attract more people to the CBD with the addition of a Fresh Produce Market.
“Our regular Saturday morning shoppers will be delighted to discover the monthly fresh food stalls that will complement our already great retail offering."
The Ballarat Fresh Produce Market is held on the first Saturday of every month. Around 30 marquees feature fresh food and produce. The Market has a strong focus on local food production and sustainability.
