Ballarat is set to become a cycling mecca once again with the Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships to be staged in Ballarat (CBD), Buninyong and Learmonth from tomorrow, Thursday 5 – Tuesday 10 January 2012.
To ensure the safety of spectators and competitors and deliver the infrastructure requirements for the staging of this event, the following traffic alterations and parking restrictions will be implemented:
Thursday 5 January – Ballarat CBD
- Cyclists will complete multiple laps of Sturt St, from Raglan St to Armstrong St.
- Pedestrian access to businesses in this precinct will not be affected. Please approach the area with caution and follow the direction of police and marshals
- Temporary V/Line and suburban bus stops will be implemented during this period - details will be displayed at bus stops and on buses.

- The National Open Road Race is contested in an anti-clockwise direction over a 10.2km circuit encompassing Warrenheip St, Midland Hwy, Mt Buninyong Rd, Yankee Flat Rd, Gear Ave, Fisken Rd and Geelong Rd.
- Residents must exit and return to their property when safe to do so in the same direction as cyclists and seek advice from police and marshals before driving on the circuit.
- Pedestrian access to businesses in this precinct will not be affected.
- Temporary V/Line and suburban bus stops will be implemented during this period - details will be displayed at bus stops and on buses.
