Contract Control Services Awarded Contract to Kick Start Regional Soccer Facility

The City of Ballarat Council voted on Wednesday night to award the contract to construct Stage 1 of the Ballarat Regional Football (Soccer) Facility at Morshead Park to Contract Control Services Pty Ltd.

The start of construction of Stage 1 of Ballarat’s Regional Football Facility over coming months signals exciting times for Ballarat.

The new purpose built stadium facility will be built adjacent to the number one pitch at Morshead Park and will contain player and referee change rooms, public amenities, a canteen, storage and first aid facilities on the ground level.

The City of Ballarat has worked with Sport and Recreation Victoria, Football Federation Victoria and Football Federation South West Victoria to deliver the facility in a staged manner and ensure the best outcome for soccer in Ballarat over the long term.

Stage 2 of the building would complete the fit out of the upper level facilities which eventually include a board room, kitchen, public amenities and viewing areas.

Ballarat Mayor, Cr Mark Harris said that Council was committed to supporting one of Australia’s fastest growing participation sports – soccer.

“We are excited to move forward with this project and build a regional soccer facility that will enable the attraction of elite level soccer events, regional participation and can house Ballarat’s soccer clubs.”

“While some may question the staging of the facility, we have worked with the stakeholders to deliver the grand vision for soccer for the region”.

“Council will continue to seek additional funding support from Government and will investigate community and sponsorship options to complete the upstairs fit out”.

“Council has accepted the advice of the soccer community that they would prefer to see the pavilion constructed in this sequence, and that all parties continue to seek funding to enable to complete the fit out of the upper story of the facility.

“Soccer in Ballarat is already in good shape with the delivery of the synthetic pitch in mid 2011. The synthetic pitch is all-weather and enables year games and practice”.

It is estimated that the project will be completed by late 2012.
