The 2011 Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships kicks off tomorrow evening, Thursday 6 January, with the National Criteriums to be contested in Sturt Street.
The action starts at 5pm where over 200 world-class riders will compete, over three events, to be crowned Australian Criterium Champion on a fast-paced circuit on Sturt Street between Raglan and Armstrong streets.
Current Australian champions, Aaron Kemps, Daniel Braunsteins and Carly Light, will defend their titles in the men’s and women’s races.
Portfolio Councillor for Destination and Connections Samantha McIntosh encouraged residents and visitors to come along and witness a National Criterium in the heart of the city.
“It will be fantastic to see Sturt Street alive with cycling fever again this year. I encourage residents and visitors to come along early, grab a spot in one of the cafes or restaurants, or set up in the centre of Sturt Street and enjoy the exciting atmosphere.”
“With elite riders such as Robbie McEwan and 2010 men’s and women’s champions, Aaron Kemps and Carly Light, competing there is sure to be plenty of fast-paced action.”
