Redevelopment of the Ballarat Civic Hall site moves to the next stage with the City of Ballarat calling for Expressions of Interest for the Community Advisory Committee.

Expressions of Interest will open tomorrow, Saturday 8 January, for suitably qualified local architects and community representatives with broad overall experience and knowledge of key public developments.

Ballarat Mayor Councillor Craig Fletcher said Council was looking forward to forming the Community Advisory Committee and commencing the next stage of this significant project.

“Redevelopment of the Civic Hall site is a major undertaking for the city and one that Council is committed to progressing.

“Formation of the Civic Hall Community Advisory Committee is another important element in Council’s ongoing consultation with the community.”

The role of the Community Advisory Committee will be to provide advice throughout the planning and design phase of the project. A key responsibility of the Committee will be to provide input, comment and debate on the key design elements, evaluation criteria and how these relate to the public realm.

The Civic Hall Community Advisory Committee is to be made up of nine members including:

  • City of Ballarat (Chair);
  • a representative from the Ballarat Heritage Advisory Committee;
  • five representatives from selected key community groups and leaders;
  • a local architect; and
  • an independent community representative.

Information on the Expression of Interest process will be available on Council’s website from tomorrow, Saturday 8 January and also in the City of Ballarat Notice Board advertisement in The Courier.
