Work is set to begin on the restoration of the Bath Lane façade of the Ballarat Town Hall.
The works follow on from the restoration of 1860s external fabrics fronting Sturt St, Armstrong St and Town Hall Lane completed in 2010.
The restoration of the Bath Lane 1912 façade, including three small ground floor panels in Armstrong Street, has been programmed to follow the recent completion of the new unisex toilet facility which has access through the Bath Lane façade. The toilet facility will be opened to the public in the first half of 2012.
City of Ballarat Councillor Samantha McIntosh said the planned works would see the completion of restorations on the rendered fabrics of the Town Hall.
“We’ve been progressing well with a number of restoration works on the Town Hall, ensuring the building is maintained to levels which accord with its state and national heritage significance”.
Other works include the installation of additional roof walkway links and flagpole upgrades, replacement of two roof mounted clock tower flood lights with low energy fittings, the replacement of roof gutters and downpipes, and the replacement of cracked and broken panes on the clock faces of the Town Hall.
The restoration works will require scaffolding to access the two storey Bath Lane wall. The works include render repairs and repainting of timber window frames.
Tenders are currently being called for the restoration works which will be completed by June this year.
