Students prepare Begonia Parade float

Thursday, February 10, 2011, 11:53 AM

Black Hill Primary School students have begun preparing their float for the 2011 The Courier Begonia Parade.

Students are involved in a sculpture building workshop, today (10/02).

Local visual artists Suzanna Kalk and Stuart Vaskess will lead the workshop. The students will be working on a large fish sculpture which will form the schools entry for the Parade.

City of Ballarat Destination and Connections Portfolio Councillor Samantha McIntosh said it was exciting to see preparations for the Parade well underway.

“I can confirm that we have received approximately 40 registrations for this year’s festival.”

“It is great to see schools, organisations and groups busy putting their floats together and creating their own interpretations of this year’s theme ‘Life on the Lake’.”

For the first time, Parade Awards will be announced in three categories, Best School Entry, Best Community Entry and Best Business entry whilst the best overall entry will be awarded the inaugural Mayor’s The Courier Begonia Parade Perpetual Cup.

Registrations for this year’s parade have now closed.
