Planning permits have been received by the City of Ballarat for the Ballarat Airport Infrastructure Upgrade project.
The upgrade project will consist of a new aircraft parking apron and associated taxiways, a new road into the aviation development precinct, a flight operations building and upgrade works to water, sewer, electricity and stormwater infrastructure.
City of Ballarat Councillor Samantha McIntosh said the tender for the majority of the upgrade works would be advertised in September.
“We’ll be looking to advertise the tender in September with a view to beginning construction in November, weather permitting”.
The works will add to the $1.4 million infrastructure upgrade completed in early 2010 which included a new international standard runway lighting system, installation of new optic fibres, renewal of the existing water main, construction of a new taxiway and installation of new drainage.
All works are in line with the Ballarat Aerodrome Master Plan 2004-2014 and are expected to be completed in early 2012.
