Lake track repair works complete

Repairs to Moneghetti Track at Lake Wendouree have progressed well over past weeks.

Three kilometres of track damaged by the unusually wet winter to date have been stabilised with cement and granitic sand.

City of Ballarat Councillor Judy Verlin said the works had provided a huge improvement.

“The state of the track was dreadful and we were very aware that it was frustrating for the regular users, on both foot and bikes”.

“We’re confident that this is the solution to the problems with this particular part of the track and we will continue to monitor the state of the entire track to ensure it doesn’t get back to the muddy state it was in before the works”.

The Lake Wendouree Masterplan currently recommends a granitic sand path surface because it better suits both the cross section of users and the lake amenity.

“Like any other unsealed surface, the Moneghetti Track requires periodic maintenance and repairs. The wear and tear caused by heavy foot and bike traffic makes this inevitable”.

Resheeting, cement stabilisation and granitic sand were all used in the repairs. These treatments are shown to have more suitable properties for use in the lake precinct environment.
