Scaffolding will be removed from the Arch of Victory over the coming days.
The final coat of mineral paint has been applied this week with finer weather allowing this process to occur without disruption.
The blue ‘History Lives in Ballarat’ fabric will be removed today and tomorrow in preparation for the scaffolding to come down on Friday. Dismantling the scaffolding will take approximately five days.
City of Ballarat Councillor Noel Perry said final works on the base structure of the Arch would be undertaken towards the end of next week.
“We’re certainly getting to the business end of the works now. The final works to the base will happen by the end of the week, followed by the construction of kerb and channel immediately adjacent to the east face of the Arch over the next two weeks”.
“We expect the orange concrete road barriers to be removed in about two weeks which will allow the return of traffic to the westbound carriageway”.
Cr. Perry said two banners would be installed to recognise the completion of works and to countdown to the official opening event in November.
The Avenue of Honour/Arch of Victory committee will continue to work closely with Council and the community over the coming months to plan the opening event.
The last part of the project will involve a final course of asphalt on the roundabout and landscaping works to the Arch of Victory precinct including the roundabout, islands, verges and medians. Both elements are expected to be delivered over the next two months.
The Arch of Victory restoration project has been funded by the City of Ballarat and the Federal Government through the National Heritage Sites and Regional Local Community Infrastructure programs.
