Ballarat BMX enthusiasts will have a brand new facility to enjoy following the official opening of the rebuilt BMX track at the Marty Busch Recreation Reserve tomorrow (16/04).

The $13,000 project has included a complete rebuild of the existing BMX track, new start gate, new seating, new pathway, new gating to the facility and overall improvements to the site.

City of Ballarat Portfolio Councillor for People and Communities Des Hudson said the project had been a collaborative effort between Council and the Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club - BMX Committee.

“It is rewarding to see this project complete and to see the facility being utilised and enjoyed by the many BMX enthusiasts we have here in our city.

“We look forward to a resurgence of our local BMX club and to seeing track races held here every week.”

The new track is 260 metres long, includes four straights and three banked turns and has been constructed with 300 tonnes of granitic sand.

The project included six days of specialised track building expertise by Humps Bumps and Jumps Pty Ltd.  The BMX Committee contributed 110 man hours to cleaning the site, raking and hand moulding jumps.

The project is part of the draft Marty Busch Recreation Reserve Master Plan that will go to Council shortly for full consideration.

The official opening event will include the following:

11am – 1pm: ‘Track Active Day’ – come and try session for anyone interested in becoming involved in the sport.

12noon: Official opening – cutting of the ribbon

1 – 2pm: Registration for race meeting/practice for race meeting

2 – 4pm: BMX Club first race meeting
