FREEDOM OF INFORMATION (FOI)


The Freedom of Information Act 1982 gives the general public the right to request information held by government departments including local councils. The Freedom of Information Act 1982 provides for:

  1. A general right of access to documents by the public.
  2. The ability for individuals to amend incorrect information about them held by government.
  3. Rights of appeal in relation to the previous two functions
  4. Government departments to publish certain details about themselves and their functions.

All requests for information under Freedom of Information must be in writing, and addressed to the Freedom of Information Officer, and be accompanied by a $24.40 application fee.
