What you can/can't take to the Transfer Station

What are 'Sorted Acceptable Recyclables'?

The transfer station provides an opportunity for Ballarat residents to assist Council in further reducing the volume of material going to landfill as the operators endeavor to sort as much recyclable material from the waste stream as possible.

  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminium
  • HDPE, PET, and PVC bottles and containers
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Cardboard (flattened)

Are there Alternative Options?

Ballarat has a number of specialist commercial recycling facilities that will accept product such as Timber, Building Rubble, Concrete and Bricks. These specialist recyclers are listed in the local Yellow Pages.

How can you save time & money at the Transfer Station?

By separating your load into specific groups of material you can reap the benefits through lower gate fees. For example, if your load is clearly divided between greenwaste which is charged at $6.50 per cubic metre and Building Rubble at $21.00 per cubic metre you will be charged a total of $27.50 based on a load of one cubic metre of each product. In contrast should the greenwaste and building rubble be mixed together you will be charged $42.00 for a two cubic metre load. In addition, loads separated out are quicker and easier to unload making your visit to the transfer station shorter.
