Mechanical Street-Cleaning

Mechanical sweepers are utilised to clean the Citys gutters (kerbs and channels), roadways and footpaths throughout the City. The gutters and footpaths within the CBD are swept on a daily basis.

Both the Bridge Mall and Central Square Shopping Centres are also maintained on a daily basis using a smaller machine specifically designed for this purpose. Urban shopping precincts such as Howitt Street and Albert Street are swept twice a weekly.

Primary city entrances are swept fortnightly, with secondary entrances serviced on a monthly basis. Residential streets with formed kerb and channel are swept four times a year.

In addition to the programs identified above, hot spots and industrial areas are targeted on a regular basis.

In all Council sweeps approximately 20,000km each year throughout the municipality.
