Indigenous Nursery

Ballarat's Indigenous Nursery has been operating since 2002, and is located at the Ballarat Horticulture Centre Depot on the corner of Gillies and Gregory Streets in Ballarat. The nursery is open every Wednesday for community and landcare groups to assist Council staff in propagating local indigenous plants for the Ballarat region.

Ballarat Indigenous NurseryThe nursery provides an educational opportunity for university students, volunteers and work experience students to gain practical skills in plant propagation.

The Ballarat Indigenous Nursery supports community-based environmental care and research programs including Landcare projects and Councils Greening Ballarat Program by providing the facility by propagating local indigenous plants from seed and plant material collected from local remnants.

Community tree planting days are held to ensure that community involvement and ownership of the project is enhanced. Major events include National Tree Day, World Environment Day and Biodiversity Month.
