Early Years Literacy

A new group has recently formed to look at the issue of early years (0-8 years) literacy in Ballarat. Anyone with an interest or passion in Early Years Literacy is encouraged to join this group.

Walking On Words Early Years Literacy Conference - September 2008

After the success of last years conference, registrations are well underway for this years conference.

Developing an early years Literacy Strategy: "Beginning with Books"

The group are currently developing an Early Years Strategy. The strategy aims to link together the variety of projects that have been implemented and being planned to support and promote early years literacy in Ballarat. The strategy will be available on completion.

Walking on Words Early Years Literacy Conference - August 2007 

Over 400 people attended an Early Years Literacy conference on 5-6 August 2007. Brain Nankervis set the scene for the event at the Conference dinner the night before. Mem Fox was the key note speaker, and was able to delight the audience with her captivating and informative delivery.

 

Other speakers that followed included Hilary Henshaw speaking about enriching young children's language and literacy through music. Jeanette Rowe gave a personal account of her journey to become a noted writer of children's books. Graham Davey gave a humorous account of ways to work with children through literacy, and Sarah Major-Cox delved into some of the current theory in literacy. The day was held together beautifully with the insight of Anne E Stewart, a local story - teller.
