Unsealed Roads

Council is responsible for maintaining just over 1,200km of roads, with 300km of these being unsealed. That amounts to over 1.5 million square metres of gravel roads.

In 2005, Council introduced the Sealing Of Unsealed Roads Policy (PDF - 72KB)due to an increased demand for the upgrade of unsealed roads to sealed status. The purpose of the policy is to assess potential unsealed roads to be sealed by using certain criteria. These criteria include traffic volume, traffic speeds, maintenance levels and type of vehicles using the road. Development in the area and the impact on future road uses are also taken into account.

If you would like to request the sealing of an unsealed road, it must be in writing and addressed to:
Infrastructure Planning, City of Ballarat, PO Box 655, Ballarat VIC 3353.

For general enquiries on unsealed roads please call Customer Service 03 5320 5500.
