The township of Buninyong is expected to have significant growth over the next 10 to 15 years. Council has therefore prepared a strategy which considers the road related infrastructure requirements to cater for the township's future growth.
Public comment and submissions are welcome until Friday, 28 March 2008.
Objectives
The objective of the strategy is to:
- Provide a clear understanding of the road, parking, footpath, cycle path, public street lighting and drainage network development and management needs into the future; and
- Prioritise the investment needs for infrastructure upgrades and new works in the township that will be used to assist in the development of Council's long term capital works program.
Consultation with key stakeholders during the project revealed that in relation to infrastructure Buninyong seeks to be a township which:
- Retains its historic features;
- Provides road and street infrastructure which is as safe as practicable for motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and users;
- Plans for growth and limits the impact of this growth on its infrastructure and environment;
- Plans for change in its population structure;
- Ensures that stormwater is managed in an environmentally sustainable way; and
- Ensures that its infrastructure is sustainable physically and economically.
Key Outcomes
The key outcomes of the strategy will be to ensure all roads, car parking, public transport, stormwater drainage, footpaths, cycle paths and public street lighting are catered for in the planning of next 10 - 15 years, when the amount of housing in Buninyong is expected to increase by up to 29%.

Whether you are an interested resident or part of a community group, you are encouraged to forward a written submission to comment on any aspect of the draft.
The draft strategy is available for down load, Buninyong Infrastructure Strategy Draft.pdf (PDF - 3671KB) and Buninyong Infrastructure Draft Appendicies.pdf (PDF - 1892KB) or for viewing at the Ballarat Town Hall until Friday, 28 March 2008.
Submissions may be hand delivered to the Phoenix Building or mailed to Buninyong Township Strategy, Infrastructure, City of Ballarat, P O Box 655, Ballarat 3350.
Submissions must be received by close of business Friday, 28 March 2008. (Please note that submissions will be considered for the final Draft but not responded to on an individual Basis.)
